Why are we doing this?

We are all ex-members of UD/First Love or Mustered Seed. We created this blog, not as a 'hit piece' on Dag but as a useful source of information, help or advice for individuals who attend one of his 'churches' but can sense something is not biblically right. We have finally decided to own that role and be intentional about it. We started this blog with a mission to:

1) Give the Gospel to the lost

2) To collate all the information you will need to escape a cult

When God started revealing the truth to us, leaving the church was extremely difficult. We would ask ourselves, 'am I wrong?', 'Am I being disloyal?, 'Do I have a demon?'. The answer to those questions is a loud resounding NO!. Outlets that aim to expose the heretical preaching of Dag are available, however they are scarce and somewhat concealed, We created this blog to provide a platform where all the necessary information can be placed accordingly.

As you can appreciate some of us still have family, friends and loved ones in this cult. Therefore, some of the moderators will be using Alias.

We are not going to lie to you, every single one of us can say we had good experiences (moments) in the cult, of course, it wasn't all that bad because if it was, we wouldn't have been there for so long. We will talk in-depth about cognitive dissonance soon.

They called me Disloyal

Like most people, I started attending the cult when I was in college/Uni. I grew up in a Christian household and knew about this Jesus person, but I wanted my own personal relationship with him so I ventured out on my own looking for a church with young people (first mistake). My intentions were pure, I wanted Jesus but that naivety led me down a path to be abused and manipulated. I was humiliated, gaslighted and disrespected for close to 3 straight years. I never realised how much of an impact they had on me until I was able to break free and when I did, I didn't know that came with realising how broken I was.

Dag always talks about the importance of quiet time (he is not wrong Genesis 50:20) The parable that best describes what happened to me that day is found in Matthew 18:12. For the first time in forever I read my bible without a Dag Heward-Mills book, and what I read made my blood run cold. I questioned myself, did these "men of God" not know, have they not read? of course they know! I shouted at myself. They are just disobeying the lord. It took me 1 year of deprogramming before the thought of even leaving came to mind. But I was never alone.

Because he left the 99 to find me.

I didn't stay in my lane

The defining moment for me was when I was sat in the middle of a Sunday sermon, watching a live stream of Dag preaching. The sermon took a turn as he went off on a tangent informing the church of the opposition he faced during the construction of a new building, proceeding to make statements to the effect of how outrageous it was that people would dare go against his decision, he then coined the rest of the sermon with the phrase ‘Stay in your Lane’, the entire church jumped up in uproar saying 'stay in your lane', and no one should be questioning his decisions. I think the most shocking part of this sermon, was not the stay in your Lane comments, or the fact that no one disagreed with the turn the sermon took, it was not even the fact that no one else was a shocked or disgusted as I felt, or that it all seemed so normal to the church, but it was the essence of the message, that because of the success of the churches, he is without fault, and every decision made is infallible, ‘because God only speaks through him’.

After this, my thoughts instantly went back to a seven signs of a cult post I read. The irony was I had used that post to defend the church to my family. As I sat there surrounded by church members that were captivated by his words, my mind was flooded with thoughts ‘how wrong I was? How was it no one else felt shocked or violated by the misdirection of ‘our daddy’, ‘if I am the only person feeling this way then surely I must be wrong?’.

As soon as the service was done I knew so was I, but much like other people who have had a similar experience, it took me a couple of months to finally leave the ‘church’.

I was not a 'son'

Initially, I observed peculiar behaviours and activities that did not particularly reside well with me, such as the pastor preaching from the 'bishops book' as opposed to the Bible, the congregation making loud remarks during the sermon, and the extensive period of time was consumed by excessive dancing, singing and acting. However I chose to overlook these things because internally, I concluded that my main reason for being there, which was my need to be surrounded by more 'Christians', outweighed the reservations that I listed above.

As time passed, I was growing under the influence of what I was being taught at the church. I was constantly being encouraged to watch camps, buy books (makarios), and listen to podcasts in order to “soak” (digest) the message that the “bishop” of the church would deliver. I became immersed in the ideologies and beliefs of the “bishop” and the church to such an extent that I negated the means and tools a Christian can utilise to discern. Most of my private study and every form of counsel I received were all within the confines of the church and the bishops resources.

While I was still there, a friend recommended that I watch a documentary called ‘American Gospel: Christ Alone’. This documentary exposed the Word of faith movement, the ‘prosperity gospel’, The Trinity, tithing, spiritual gifts and salvation whilst providing biblical and historical evidence with its appropriate context. Furthermore, it was firm in exposing the pastors that engage in Christian and church malpractice for their own personal gain, some of which have actually been co-signed by the “bishop” (e.g. Benny Hinn, Kenneth Hagin). It made me realise that several activities that take place in the church are not within biblical parameters and the doctrines taught as it pertains to the topics mentioned above are comprehensively incorrect. Although I didn’t experience anything traumatic, being at that church and abiding by the doctrines and ideologies of the bishop would have only led to a path of destruction. Additionally, I had to be honest with myself and admit that I wanted my ears tickled, and therefore I needed to repent for not being discerning and for prioritising my own agenda and satisfaction ahead of what the Bible explains the body of Christ should consist of and how it should operate.
