If you brainwash someone, you force them to believe something by continually telling them that it is true, and preventing them from thinking about it properly.

When you step into a member's car or house they have a message on in the background. This would be fine if that was it, but it goes much deeper. They have probably been listening to that sermon for weeks on constant repeat.
